Dr. James Castlen Retires from Board of Directors

In February 2017, Dr. James Castlen retired from the Sacred Winds Ministries Board of Directors. A founding member of the ministry, Dr. Castlen served with grace and enthusiasm offering wisdom grounded in years of Biblical study and service to the mission field. He and his wife Shelby served with the International Mission Board in the Philippines (1972-1988) and in Australia (1988-1990). Following his work in the field, he was on the faculty of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College from 1990-2002 and then served as Director of Missions with the Three Forks Baptist Association in Eastern Kentucky for nearly twelve years.

A Kentucky native, Dr. Castlen is a graduate of Berea College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He currently serves as Pastor to Senior Adults and Mt. Washington Baptist Church near Louisville, KY.

As tribute to Dr. Castlen’s many years of service for the sake of the Gospel, Sacred Winds Ministries has commissioned Scott Boerma to write a fanfare based from Ein Fest Burg that will be premiered at the June 2017 Sacred Winds Ensemble concert.

We are grateful for Dr. Castlen’s compassion and servant leadership. May God continue to bless his family as they serve him.

“I am impressed that the group is not satisfied with merely playing the standard repertoire.”
