2015 Summer Concert Series
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father. We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you.”
The apostle Paul’s greeting in his letter to the church at Colossae so beautifully expresses our own greeting to you, our friends, old and new, of Sacred Winds Ministries. The ministry is excited to announce that this summer’s concert series, which is our nineteenth, involves expanded venues: We are tremendously pleased to be returning to Hazard, our hometown, for our annual concert, while continuing our concerts in Somerset and Prestonsburg. We will also be expanding our outreach to Lexington, Kentucky.
Additionally, we are thrilled with the Christ-honoring theme and focus of the program for these concerts: This summer’s program, In Christ Alone, takes its title and program structure from the first chapter of Colossians. Because we affirm with the apostle Paul’s statement in this chapter that all things—including this ensemble—were created through him and for him, the musical content of the program will reflect God’s faithfulness to our ministry in a unique way: This summer marks the fifteenth anniversary of our commissioning project. To date, Sacred Winds has commissioned fifteen works for various ensembles; thus, to celebrate this anniversary, our program will consist of works chosen from among those commissioned projects (with four of the five selections having received their world premiere in Hazard, Kentucky).
