Castle and VanHoose to Sing at June Concert

The Sacred Winds Ensemble comes to The First Federal Center in Hazard, KY for their 2013 tour on Sunday, June 9 at 2:30 pm.  The 60-member professional wind ensemble is comprised of musicians from across the Eastern United States who perform unique concerts in which scripture is expounded and presented through art music.  This summer’s concert, Celebrating God’s Faithfulness, is based on Psalm 100.  The concert’s featured volcalists are Tonya Castle and Marlena VanHoose.  They will be singing hymns by Keith Getty and Stewart Townend.

This summer will be Marlena VanHoose’s first appearance with the ensemble.  A native of Paintsville, KY, the seventeen-year-old soprano has a touching testimony.  Marlena was born

totally blind and only given one year to live, yet God has given her a fruitful and joyous life in Him.  She has completed several years of vocal study at the Mountain Arts Center with Barbara Parker Kelly and, more recently, Jennifer Hughes Bersaglia, and is a member of the Johnson Central High School Honor Choir, and has been selected for the Kentucky All-State Choir numerous times.  Additionally, Marlena has been seen on stage as a member of the Kentucky Opry Junior Pro’s, as well as a frequent guest artist, and across the region at various civic and church events.

Soprano Tonya Castle, of Louisa, KY, is no stranger to the ensemble; this summer’s concert marks her thirteenth year with thegroup.  Tonya is Music Teacher and Choir Director at Louisa Middle School.  She holds a Bachelors of Music and Masters in Music Education from Morehead State University where studied voice with Dr. Roma Prindle.  Further studies were completed in Salzburg, Austria.  In addition to her teaching career, she is also Music Director at her church and currently serves on the local tourism board.

The concert is sponsored by the Sacred Winds Foundation and come complimentary to the public.  For more information, visit www.sacredwinds.org or like us on facebook.com/sacredwinds.

Testimonials

“I am impressed that the group is not satisfied with merely playing the standard repertoire.”
