The Sacred Winds Ensemble comes to The First Federal Center in Hazard, KY for their 2012 tour on Sunday, June 10 at 2:30 pm. This summer’s concert, Psalms, Hymns, and Spirituals Songs: The Gospel in Appalachian Music explores Christian worship music from Appalachia including such well-known hymns as “Amazing Grace” and “Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy”. Kentucky-based composer, James Curnow, will be in residence with the Sacred Winds Ensemble as Composer-In-Residence and Guest Conductor. Mr. Curnow will be conducting his composition, “Rhapsody on American Shape Note Melodies” which features well-known shape note tunes such as Pisgah, Avon (The Penitent’s Prayer), Bozrah, and Consolation.
As part of the 2012 Summer Tour, the Sacred Winds Ensemble will be providing music education outreach to middle school and high school instrumental music students in the Charleston area. The event will be held on June 15 at Berekely High School.

After an intense series of rehearsals, the ensemble looks forward to presenting their upcoming program, “The Word Became Flesh” at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’s Alumni Chapel. The concert will begin at 7:30 PM EST on Monday, June 6, 2011.
The Sacred Winds Ensemble will present their 2011 Summer Program, The Word Became Flesh, in Louisville, KY at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Convocation Hall at The First Federal Center in Hazard, KY. The program is based from John’s Prologue (John 1:1-18), and will feature music by Mackey, Schuman, Maslanka, Cook, and Bach and will include supportive commentaries by Daryl Cornett, Bill Haynes, Jarvis Williams, and Scott Bersaglia.
